The new French fastback is available in pure petrol and plug-in hybrid forms. The Peugeot 408 starts at 38,800 euros for the base model and at least 53,500 euros for the plug-in hybrid. The Peugeot 408 stands 1.48 meters tall and has a thin profile. According to the manufacturer, it boasts a wide second row with 188 millimeters of knee room with a length of 4.69 meters based on a lengthy wheelbase of 2.79 meters. The trunk volume of the hybrid model is 471 liters. It holds 1545 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Peugeot's new model has the latest generation of the Peugeot i-Cockpit. "The emphasis is on interior quality and connectivity with the newest technologies to make driving and traveling even more natural," it claims. The 408 is also available with a broad choice of 30 driver-aid systems of the newest generation, depending on whether the version is optional or standard.
The Peugeot 408's digital instrument cluster includes display modes that may be customized, such as navigation and radio. Drivers gain an additional perspective with the help of the blind spot helper (standard from Allure Pack) and a reversing camera with 180° surrounding vision (standard), 360° surrounding view (optional from Allure Pack), including rear parking aid. Vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles are identified day and night at speeds ranging from 7 km/h to 140 km/h, using the Active Safety Brake Plus with collision warning and immediate emergency braking (standard for hybrid versions). The active lane departure warning system with steering intervention (available on the Allure Pack, standard on the GT) adds another layer of protection while driving.
The Peugeot 408 Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 plug-in hybrid version with two-wheel drive combines a 132 kW (180 hp) petrol engine and an 81 kW (110 hp) electric motor mated to the e-EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission. Peugeot claims a combined fuel consumption of 1.2 liters per 100 kilometers (WLTP), the energy consumption of 14.71 to 14.41 kWh/100, and CO2 emissions of 28 to 26 g/km.
The Peugeot 408 Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 plug-in hybrid variant will be offered in 2023 with a slightly less powerful 110 kW (150 hp) combustion engine. The all-electric vehicle will be available a few months after the hybrids.
