Since its inception in 1927, Alfa Romeo has dominated the Mille Miglia, an essential road race. The Alfa Romeo brand won the Mille Miglia eleven times between 1927 and 1957. The Mille Miglia, dormant until 1977, was held for the 40th time as a vintage car rally. Yet another squad used an Alfa Romeo to claim victory. And just like last year, Andrea Vasco and his co-driver Fabio Salvinelli were hailed as champions. The two Italians rode about in a 92-year-old Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport customized by Zagato. In 1929, a car like this one won the Mille Miglia. From Brescia to Rome and back is a thousand kilometers.
The traditional route is from Brescia in northern Italy to the state capital Rome and back, roughly 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles). The final part of the journey from Parma to Brescia went via many cities significant to the history and future of Alfa Romeo. In addition, the racetracks at Varano and Monza were included. In 2022, the circuit will be 100 years old and will mark the occasion with a celebration of Formula One racing.
Once again, the Mille Miglia passed through the territories that gave birth to the Italian love of racing—areas Enzo Ferrari called the "most beautiful race in the world." The classic car rally ended with a typical march down Viale Venezia and a triumphant arrival in Brescia.
Classic cars, likely the first vehicles entered in the inaugural Mille Miglia, drew tens of thousands of onlookers throughout the course. Accompanying them were the Alfa Romeo Tonale, who also generated excitement. The first fully electric SUV from the manufacturer has just been released across Europe. In addition, the Alfa Romeo Tonale was lauded by racegoers for its performance in the Mille Miglia. He took the classic cars to some of Italy's most scenic spots. So it was fitting that the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport would come out on top in this competition.
